2nd league: BW Linz secures third place with a thumping victory

2. Garter

Blau-Weiss Linz won Friday’s top game in the Admiral 2nd league and is therefore still in the running for the title. The Upper Austrians, who are not eligible for promotion to the Bundesliga, defeated SKU Ertl Glas Amstetten 5:2 (2:2), consolidated their third place in the table and reduced the gap to the top to five points for the time being.

Leaders Austria Lustenau and pursuers FAC Vienna, one point behind, only play against stragglers on Saturday. Vorarlberger receive Vorarlberg Steyr, Floridsdorfer FC Dornbirn.

Amstetten took the lead twice in Linz with a penalty kick by Stefan Urlaub (27th/penalty) and Sebastian Leimhofer (39th), but the hosts turned the match around with goals from Matthias Seidl (29th), Christoph Schösswendter (43rd), Aleksandar Kostic (49th), Paul Mensah (74th) and Michael Brandner (82nd).

Innsbruck wins at Liefering

Despite the financial misery, Wacker Innsbruck gave a sporting sign of life with a 1-0 win at fourth-placed FC Liefering. The golden goal of the ninth-placed Tyrolean was provided by Ronivaldo with a header in the eleventh minute. In the closing stages, Raphael Hofer missed the equalizer for the “Young Bulls”, who have been waiting for a complete success for seven league games.

With a 2:2 win over Rapids Amateure, GAK came within three points of the fifth-placed team from Amstetten. Kapfenberg and Horn also drew 0:0. In the fight against relegation, the Young Violets of Wiener Austria dealt with the OÖ Juniors 4:0.
