Last weekend (April 2 and 3) the 2022 provincial judo championship was held in Repentigny. The Saint-Georges Judo Club was there, with a delegation of 12 athletes.
For the first time since the start of the pandemic, all judokas could present themselves there to showcase their know-how. It is therefore with great pleasure to finally be all back on the mats that our judokas faced the best athletes in the province.
Postponed for 2 years due to the pandemic, this edition which took place on 5 combat surfaces welcomed more than 725 Quebec judokas. Among them, 8 Beaucerons have distinguished themselves, including Leah Michaud (U16F -52 kg) and Charline Bourque (U16 -63 kg) who both leave with the coveted title of provincial champion!
It is important to highlight the exemplary work of coaches Martin Beaulieu and Sylvain Michaud who were able to lead our athletes to this level of excellence despite the restrictions that were in place. The tremendous preparation of our athletes allowed the Judo Beauce club to win 8 medals during this event:
• U12F: Magalie Hins bronze
• U14M: Landon Lessard silver (-50 kg) and Nathanaël Enkirche bronze (-42 kg)
• U16F : Leah Michaud or (-52 kg) et Charline Bourque or (-63 kg)
• U16M: Samuel Lespérance silver (-38 kg) and William Maheux bronze (-38 kg)
• U18F: Charline Bourque silver (-63 kg)
Among the 1275 fights that took place during the provincial championship, the longest recorded was the one between two of our judokas! Thus, Samuel L’Espérance and William Maheux competed for more than 15 minutes to finally win silver and bronze respectively. What admirable perseverance!
The elite Judo Beauce team is now preparing for the Canadian championships which will take place this spring in Montreal, from May 19 to 22.
