Emiel Verstrynge is one of the new promising acquisitions of Alpecin-Fenix. The Belgian cyclo-cross champion in the U23 class leaves the Tormans team and wants to develop further with the Roodhooft brothers. The young talent wants to take new steps forward not only in the field, but also on the road. “The combination between the cyclo-cross and the road program has been decisive.”
Today it was announced that Emiel Verstrynge is making the switch to Alpecin-Fenix. He signed a three-year contract. The promising rider became Belgian champion in cyclo-cross last season and hopes to develop further with the Roodhooft brothers both on the road and in the field.
“I am happy with my choice and I am really looking forward to the new season. I am leaving the past behind and I am fully focused on this new challenge. The new three-year contract gives me a lot of certainty and confidence.”
The choice for Alpecin-Fenix was also a well-considered choice by Verstrynge. “There is more than enough knowhow in that team to show off as a rider. Everything to succeed as an athlete is there. So I have a lot of confidence in the team’s framework.”
This year I want to show beautiful things both on the road and on the field
“In addition, the good mix between the cyclo-cross and the road program appeals to me enormously. With the development team I can race in the summer at a level that is closer to mine. For example, there are both on the road and in the field a lot of career opportunities. That combination was the deciding factor.”
“The road races still serve as preparation for the field. Nevertheless, I want to show beautiful things in both disciplines this year,” Verstrynge concludes ambitiously.
Our national U23 champion in cyclo-cross will compete for the first time in the Alpecin-Fenix jersey at the beginning of May. It is not yet known in which game he will make his debut. First he can get to know the group during an internship at the end of this month.
King’s couple Wyseure/Verstrynge is reunited
Verstrynge reunites in Alpecin-Fenix in the team with Joran Wyseure. Wyseure and Verstrynge were teammates at Tormans last year and were respectively first and second at the Cyclo-cross World Championships.
The duo are now also making the same career jump, but a potential fraternization has never been a prominent driver for both transfers, according to Verstrynge.
“We have each decided individually what the best step is for our future. The fact that we can now work together again is rather a bonus. We get along well on and off the bike.”
