Cancellations due to illness: Deutsche Post confirms problems with letter delivery in Berlin – Berlin

Deutsche Post has announced that it is having delivery problems in some parts of the city. At the same time, the group rejected allegations that messengers had only been delivering letters every four days in individual Berlin districts “for months”. A Tagesspiegel reader from the zip code district 12163 (Steglitz district) had described his ongoing problems to the editors and complained that he sometimes received reminders for invoices that he never received. Delivery people reported to him that there were “bags of mail lying around” in the distribution centers.

“Unfortunately, we had and still have a very high, unforeseeable level of sick leave in our Steglitz delivery base, as a result of which we were not able to offer the usual quality of our delivery and are not yet able to do so in full,” said Post spokesman Hans-Christian Mennenga. “We regret that and we would like to apologize for that.” The operational management is working “at high pressure” on solutions. By law, Deutsche Post is obliged to deliver letters six days a week. For years, the company has been trying to change the law and has received support from the Monopolies Commission, an advisory body to the federal government, and the FDP.

The basic supply of postal services in Berlin and Brandenburg is “still stable at a high level”, according to the company spokesman responsible for Berlin. Due to the pandemic, however, there may be temporary delays in the operating processes in individual parts of the city – such as in Steglitz. “However, the impact on our customers is usually extremely small,” Mennenga continued.

Confronted with this statement, the reader from Steglitz renews his accusation and asserts that deliverers only come every four days. The neighbors could also confirm this.
