It is a competition expected each year for students from different universities in Ouagadougou. This year, eight men’s teams and four women’s teams took part in this competition, the objective of which is to promote basket ball in these various establishments.
For this competition, the formula has changed. A quarter time on a ten-minute non-stop clock to be played during the playoffs. A change which has the principle of forcing the different teams to enter the game very quickly.
On arrival in the final, the ISSP in the women’s category against the Joseph Ki-Zerbo University and the Higher School of Public Works (ESTPO) is opposed to the Higher School of Youth (ESUP-Jeunesse) in the men.
A special rule
For the final, the organizing committee changes the rules. A non-stop time of two 10 minutes for men. In this category, no time to lose. Beaten during the competitions of the School and University Sports Union of Burkina Faso (USSU-BF) by ESUP Jeunesse, ESTPO finds the opportunity to take its revenge.
After leading 23-9 at half-time, she won by the score of 33-16. What allowed us to win was the group. We have a group of young basketball players who have spared no effort to train and come to represent the establishment. It is above all the commitment, the faith that we have in our team. The other team did not deserve confided Armelle Ouédraogo, captain of ESTPO.
The revival of basketball
Among the women, Joseph Ki-Zerbo University beat ISSP 10-6. “What allowed us to win was the group,” also explained Adama Dabaré, captain of the UJKZ and circuit contest winner.
The promoter Abraham Bayili dit Crocheto was satisfied with the organization of this 5e edition of the university championship (CUBA): “ Basketball is a university discipline since it was born at the University. The fact of organizing CUBA is a return to the source. We can say that it will take root in the Universities because we gave jerseys to all the finalist teams whereas before, we did not give jerseys. This will allow them to take part in basketball competitions ».
Abraham Bayili says Crocheto hopes more women’s teams in the next editions but also that teams from the provinces take part in the tournament. The competition was marked by dunk, free throw and home run contests.
