Last week Vollering was disappointed with her second place in the Amstel Gold Race, in Limburg she was trumped by the Italian Marta Cavalli in the final sprint. During last season’s Brabantse Pijl, Vollering was overtaken at the last minute and to her frustration she finished second.
Early on the attack
Vollering therefore preyed on the win and quickly made that clear with a first – foiled – escape attempt. The heavy rainfall made the race a bit chaotic, with many attacks and the necessary riders who dropped out.
In the end, Vollering, together with ten fellow refugees, broke free. Only Rooijakkers could keep up with her for a long time.
