Ignacio Monzón plays in Cairo

A new week of the ITF tennis circuit will have Ignacio Monzón from Corrientes participating in the main draw of the M15 in Cairo (Egypt), which will have a new competition on the clay courts of the Al-Solaimaneyah Tennis Center.

Monzón, current 785th in the ATP ranking, will return to the circuit after playing weeks ago in the two consecutive tournaments in the city of Rosario (Argentina), losing in both in the first round of the main draw.

Together with the man from Corrientes, the Argentines Fermín Tenti and the brothers Leonardo and Valerio Aboian will participate in the main draw of this Egyptian tournament.

Billie Jean King Cup

The Argentine women’s tennis team beat Mexico 2-0 in the Ecuadorian city of Salinas and is back in the playoffs for World Group II of the Billie Jean King Cup.

Lourdes Carlé, 251st in the WTA ranking, got the second Argentine point and the series after beating the Mexican Renata Zarazúa (171) 6-3 and 6-0.

In the first single, Solana Sierra, 17, from Mar del Plata, beat Marcela Zacarías 7-5, 6-1 in one hour and 15 minutes of play. The team captained by Mercedes Paz had just beaten Colombia and Guatemala and lost to Brazil in Group A of the Billie Jean King Cup at the Salinas Golf Club. Now, the Argentines will play again in November for the Repechage.

“Mecha” Paz could not count for this tournament with the injured Nadia Podoroska from Rosario (115th in the world) nor with the native of Sunchales, also from Santa Fe, Paula Ormaechea (147th in the ranking).
