Los Transplanted National Games, an event organized by the Spain Sport and Transplant Association in collaboration, this year, with the Gijón City Council and the Municipal Sports Board, aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ, bone marrow and blood donation. For this reason, these Games were born with the purpose of giving visibility and transmitting a message of hope to all people who require a transplant, as well as raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.

Athletes from all over Spain who have had an organ transplant participate in the Games, at least 6 months in advance. Athletes compete by gender in age ranges: (18-29), (30-39), (40-49), (50-59), (60-69) and (70-+). This year, there is a forecast of 150 athletes.
This competition includes 13 sports modalities: athletics, bowling, badminton, cycling, darts, golf, swimming, paddle tennis, petanque, tennis, table tennis, football and a virtual triathlon. Each participant may register for a maximum of 5 tests. The Games will begin on Thursday April 28 with the reception of the participants, for Friday 29 to start sportingly with a friendly football match between veteran Sporting players and transplanted athletes, an event that will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Mareo Football School.
Badminton, table tennis and paddle tennis will complete Friday’s session at the La Calzada sports complex. On Saturday, individual golf will take place at the municipal golf course of La Llorea and the program will be completed with tennis at the CD La Calzada, swimming in the Llano pool, petanque, darts and the mini-marathon, an open 5 km test to citizenship. The “Race for life, for donation and public health” will be the prologue of the 11th Gijón Half Marathon starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Games will be rounded off on Sunday with golf in pairs also at La Llorea, track and field athletics at CD Las Mestas, bowling and two cycling events, a 10 km time trial and a road event 30; both in the university campus environment. Check out the test schedule below.
