Füssen – On Sunday, April 24th, the Füssen Royal Bavarians start the new season in the 2nd Bundesliga. Her first opponent is last year’s champion Baldham Boars.
Although the April weather was not at its best, the Füssen Royal Bavarians managed to complete their pre-season preparations as planned. After a five-day training camp in Italy with a total of three preparatory games and three more games with the Austrian first division team Hard Bulls and the German champions Heidenheim, the Füssen baseball team is well prepared for the start of the season on Sunday. Only the game at the Austrian champions Dornbirn Indians had to be canceled due to snow on the first weekend in April.
Royals have to do without Wöhrl and Aman for the time being
A lot has happened in the squad shortly before the start of the season or the preparation. Both Michael Wöhrl and Christian Aman are not available for work-related reasons and may only join the team during the season. In addition, “catcher” (catcher) Alex Wolter can only be used to a limited extent due to a knee injury. According to the club, the Canadian import player Brayden Carpenter has made a positive impression so far. “Brayden has already integrated well into the team and can be used in a variety of ways, which helps us enormously,” says Mitch Stephan and adds: “Philipp Meyer and Bastian Zaharia also drew attention to themselves with strong performances in Italy and are driving us crazy help further.”
RBs want at least one win
Next Sunday the Royals will get down to business. With last year’s champion Baldham Boars, a heavyweight is waiting for the Füssener. Especially in the second game, the Boars are strong again with their “US pitcher” (thrower), Jackson Longhofer. “We want to steal at least one win from Baldham and we will go full throttle into the first game. After that we’ll see how we’ll start in the second game,” says Stephan.
With Mendelsohn and Meyer, Stephan has the necessary flexibility in pitching to use both in the first game if necessary. Offensively, Stephan sees the good training progress from the winter as the key: “We laid very good foundations in the winter, which have already shown in the preparation.”
It starts at 12 noon on Sunday. The first home game of the Füssen Royal Bavarians at “King’s Field” will take place in two weeks on Sunday, May 8th.
