The Mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz, and the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sports, María Teresa Flores, received the young man from Huelva, Pepe Venegas, recently proclaimed champion of spain Junior Judo in the category of less than 100 kilos.
In this meeting at the Consistory, the mayor presented him with the city flag and wanted to congratulate the Huelva native, also highlighting that with this victory Huelva adds a new champion to the long list of athletes who are triumphing inside and outside of our borders, and in this case in a modality such as judo, where we are sure that many more successes and an unstoppable career await him.
In this way, the City Council of the capital wanted to recognize not only his sporting success but also the effort and commitment of an athlete who was only 19 years old, a young man who since he was 8 years old has made this sport his passion, devoting himself to al in body and soul to achieve his dream of being at the top.
Pepe Venegas, who has come to the Consistory accompanied by his father and grandfather, has a long career of 11 years in a discipline in which he has accumulated numerous titles, such as having been champion of Andaluca for 6 years and having placed fourth and fifth in the previous championships of spain. In addition, he was also champion of the International Columbian Trophy held in 2017.
This young man is part of the Al-Andalus judoclub, located on Calle Doctor Plcido Bauelos in the capital, where he goes daily to train led by a judoka with an extensive career in our city, Manolo Alvarado. In addition, Pepe Venegas studies at the IES Alto Conquero the Superior Degree of Physical Conditioning.
Now, among the next challenges for Venegas is to win a medal at the European Championship that will be played on May 22 and 23, although his most immediate sporting event will be at the beginning of May, in the days of the National Judo League.
