During an interview with ESPN, FC Barcelona central defender Ronald Araujo returned to his extension signed with the Catalan club this week. The 23-year-old Uruguayan extended with the Catalans until 2026, despite great offers from the Premier League. The Celeste defender explained that he never doubted and that he always wanted to stay in Catalonia to join Barça’s new project.
“I’m really happy and I’m convinced that staying is the right decision because there are some great years ahead of the club. I’ve always been certain that I want to stay. There were big offers from abroad, but I’m happy at Barcelona. My family loves it here and the fans and my teammates have always made me feel at home. I am grateful for the efforts made by the club. Interest in the Premier League did not distract me at all. I was convinced of what I wanted. It’s true that money is a factor, but for me it’s not the most important thing. I am happy in Barcelona. The idea is to be here for many years. I am convinced that with the team and the project we are building, we will achieve a lot in the future”explained Araújo who has made 39 appearances for the Catalans this season and scored four goals.
