COLORADO — Garrett Hampson and Brendan Rodgers hit their first home runs of the season — both three-run — and the Colorado Rockies outscored the Washington Nationals 9-7 on Thursday.
Randal Grichuk also homered for the Rockies, who took two of three games in the series. Daniel Bard got three outs for his eighth save in nine chances. He has six straight scoreless innings.
Washington outhit the Rockies 15-10. Dominican Juan Soto and Venezuelan Keibert Ruíz hit solo home runs. Maikel Franco added three hits, including an RBI double.
Trailing 2-0, the Rockies added four runs in the second inning off Aaron Sanchez (1-2), prompted by back-to-back doubles from Ryan McMahon and Rodgers. Sam Hilliard reached on a fielding error by Venezuelan shortstop Alcides Escobar, his third blunder in as many days.
Hampson followed up by connecting into the left-field bleacher.
For the Nationals, Venezuelans César Hernández 5-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Keibert Ruíz 5-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, Escobar 4-1. The Dominicans Soto 3-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, Franco 5-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Víctor Robles 3-1 with a run scored. Cubans Yadiel Hernández 5-2.
For the Rockies, Venezuelan Yonathan Daza 3-0.
