The mild summer kick suddenly became a minor matter!
With a 3-1 win at relegated Fürth, Dortmund made it the eighth vice-championship (only Bayern has more with ten). The biggest fuss, however, was before kick-off!
Bald manager Sebastian Kehl (42) surprised Sky with a vague statement about coach Marco Rose (45). Asked whether Rose (contract until 2024) will still be a BVB coach next season, Kehl replies: “I assume so today.”
When reporter Patrick Wasserziehr digs deeper, Kehl repeats: “I assume so.”
A clear commitment sounds different! In the summer, the bitter season (early end in the Champions and Europa League as well as in the cup) is ruthlessly worked up at BVB. Rose’s future also plays a role in this.
Does the game in Fürth help him? Brandt takes the lead first (26′), after Ngankam’s lob equalizer (70′), which is well worth seeing, Brandt takes the lead again (72′). Substitute Passlack makes everything clear with a deflected shot (77th).
Brandt is the away Haaland! The national player scored seven of his nine goals this season on foreign pitches – Haaland only has four (17 at home).
Nevertheless, there is not much to celebrate at BVB. In addition to the fuss about the future of Rose, there is also dissatisfaction among the fans.
The BVB supporters still haven’t digested the embarrassing 3:4 against Bochum last week, after which there were clear expressions of dissatisfaction and whistles. At half-time, they appear to be holding up a banner addressed to their often listless pros: “Play second rate; cash in first-class?! Football has to be affordable!”
Will it be an uncomfortable summer in Dortmund?
Meanwhile, the Fürth fans say goodbye to Stefan Leitl (44) with applause and chants. The coach (contract until 2023) leaves the club in the summer thanks to an exit clause and is in talks with Hanover.
Sports director Rachid Azzouzi (51): “It’s a very sad day. But we owe a lot to the entire coaching team and that sticks with us. We thought about the clause. We are continuing on our way and it is important that the football coach who comes goes with him.”
