Villaviciosa de Odon
The Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club participated last weekend in the second day of the 2022 men’s first division league, played at the Villaviciosa de Odón Pavilion with satisfactory results.
On the second day, the team led by Alejandro Ramírez suffered two defeats, against JC Sotillo (2-1) and against Girona-Judo (3-2), obtaining victory against Ronín de Valencia (3-2) and against JC Getafe (2-3), reaping the first defeat against Club Judo Fontenebro from Madrid (2-3) and against Akari from the Canary Islands (1-4).
These results leave Teguise’s judo team after two league days played in sixth position in the national judo elite table with 8 points, just behind JC Stabia, leader with 13 points, JC Sotillo with 12, Valencia Club Judo and Girona-Judo with 11 points and CDE Judo Fontenebro with 9 points.
Alejandro Ramírez, coach of the team, has stated that “we had five important casualties, competing with one less judoka and juggling to fit between the different weights. On the third day we will fight to reach the podium but I consider the victory against Akari, a team from Gran Canaria, to be very important, because as they belong to the capital island they have much more means than us in Lanzarote, I am referring to infrastructures and, undoubtedly, to finding the headquarters of the Canarian Federation of Judo and associated sports very close. This is a lesson to keep in mind, that working hard in Judo and in any sport in the Canary Islands does not matter if you belong to a capital island or not, simply that the conditions should be the same for everyone”, concludes Ramírez.
