The women’s basketball club of our university, which was founded in 2006, has made great strides such as winning the All Japan University Basketball Championship (Incare) for the fifth consecutive year from 2017 under the guidance of Toru Ontsuka, who was the director until March this year. I have achieved it.
In this tournament, which was the first challenge since the new coach Tetsuro Hidaka took office, he won the semi-final with Waseda University 114-77, and in the final he won a close battle with Hakuoh University, 74-65. I won by 9 points.
As an individual award, Joshua Fonovo Temitope (4th grade) was commended as the best player, and Karin Imori (4th grade) won the best 8 awards.
Shin Hidaka (Professor Emeritus of Chiba University) has long served as the director and director of the basketball club at Chiba University. We have a track record of leading to the victory in the promoted first division. I have been teaching at the University of Tsukuba for two years, but I have also been involved in coaching the Japan National Team of Universiade and the men’s team of the businessman (Dai Nippon Printing). This is the first time I have been involved in coaching female athletes as a head coach, but I am very much looking forward to seeing the growth of students, and I want students to fully demonstrate their independence in playing. We hope.
In this tournament, we set the goal of playing in an exciting game, and we saw that the students did not rely on anyone and solved their own problems. When three points were scored, the players who turned to the cheering side in the spectators’ seats jumped up like themselves and were delighted, and it was a victory that the whole team got together.
He has been involved in coaching since March, succeeding former director Ontsuka. The team program that Director Ontsuka has built has already proved its excellence due to his achievement of achieving the fifth straight victory in Incare, and I think that inheritance will be a task for me. Coach Ito, who is a third and fourth grader who has been wearing Ontsuka ism as the main player of the team and has been involved in coaching the team as an assistant coach since last year, also fully understands Ontsuka ism and is familiar with it. I don’t think it’s that difficult to inherit.
I would like everyone to see the students who fought such a fierce battle smilingly interacting with each other after the game was over. The gap between in-game tension and post-game peace is at any level, but it’s a treasure for student sports. I would like to thank you for your good luck participating in the event.
One of the themes of this tournament was that everyone had good facial expressions and good feelings. Among them, if there were people who weren’t doing well or who were likely to have negative emotions, the whole team was inspiring and I was always able to improve my mental condition. I would like to connect the learning and achievements gained from this tournament to the next rookie competition and league competition. Thank you for all your support.
Although I was worried that the coach was replaced and it was the first tournament as a 4th grader, I went to the match so that I could demonstrate leadership in play and gestures. I personally made mistakes and did not engage with each other, so there were still many issues left, but I was grateful for the support of those around me, and I enjoyed playing. As a team, everyone was able to grow with each match by playing while thinking about how to win with independence, and the response was that the first game of this tournament was made in the final. I feel it. Thank you for all your support.
