Tom Schilling in the Ringbahn podcast: “I don’t think I would be the right cast for a current Berlin film” – podcasts

Actually, says Tom Schilling, “he likes to disappear” when traveling by train. All the better that he still dared to go on a round of the ring with Tagesspiegel editor Ann-Kathrin Hipp and the microphone. The two talked about Ossi empathy, Rammstein, his Goth phase, perfectionism and being a dad. About political statements by cultural workers (“We have forgotten a bit how to endure opposing positions because we find ourselves in bubbles of self-affirmation”), songwriting, the question of what makes a good film – and what Berlin actually is.

When asked what role Tom Schilling himself would play in a contemporary portrait that shows Berlin in the here and now, he says: “I don’t think I would be the right person anymore.” Berlin has a lot to do with the celebration culture and adventures, with the fact that “you can get lost in the city”. He, on the other hand, does not lose himself anymore. “I sort myself and structure myself. (…) I’m almost ready to jump; I’m already flirting with Brandenburg. That has nothing to do with Berlin anymore,” says Schilling

In addition to his acting career, Schilling has also been a musician for several years. Just a few weeks ago he released the new album “Epithymia” with his band “Die Andere Seite”. It’s going on tour with it soon. Berlin stop: Lido.
