Porsche will supply engines to Andretti from 2023

The German manufacturer Porsche will supply engines to the Andretti team engaged in the Formula Electric World Championship from 2023, he announced on Friday. Porsche currently fields two cars in this championship as does Andretti whose single-seaters are powered by units supplied by BMW, another German manufacturer which withdrew from this championship this year.

«It is important for us to support customer teams who show the same passion and professionalism for Formula E as we do.“said Thomas Laudenbach, vice-president of Porsche Motorsport, quoted in a press release. The Formula E world championship, which is in its 8th season, will be contested from next year with completely new single-seaters, the “gen3».

The Volkswagen group declared itself in favor in April of the imminent arrival of its Porsche and Audi subsidiaries in Formula 1 on condition that this championship evolves towards a more ecological formula. For its part, Andretti Autosport, run by Michael Andretti – the son of Mario Andretti who was F1 world champion in 1978 – is also planning to line up in F1 in the years to come.
