Good news in a difficult time!
Ukraine’s tennis star Elina Switolina (27) is pregnant. “With hearts full of love and happiness, we are happy to announce that we are expecting a girl in October,” announced the former world number three and her husband, tennis professional Gael Mofils (35 / France), on Sunday via Instagram .
They also posted a photo in which Monfils hugged the expectant mother from behind and put his hands on her stomach. The dream tennis couple has been married since last July, the Ukrainian officially bears her husband’s surname, but she continues to compete under her maiden name Switolina on the WTA tour.
Baby luck comes in a difficult phase for Switolina.
She has not taken part in any tournament since the end of March, most recently she had also canceled the upcoming French Open in Paris. The background is said to be mental and physical exhaustion, but the situation in her Ukrainian homeland as a result of the Russian war of aggression is said to play a greater role.
