MCKINNEY, Texas – KH Lee turned in a 63 in the final round to successfully defend his title at the Byron Nelson Tournament on Sunday. He ended his workweek at -26, one shot ahead of Jordan Spieth.
This is the second victory of his career on the PGA Tour. They both happened at the Byron Nelson. Lee started the final round in 6th place.
In Spieth’s case, he misses the chance to triumph in back-to-back tournaments for the first time since 2017. Spieth won his last tournament a few weeks ago at RBC Heritage.
Lee had the most important moment of his round on the par-3 17th hole. While he was in a very bad position near a bunker, he managed to send his approach shot a few feet from the cut, before making a good putt to maintain his score of -25.
Moments later, Spieth missed a birdie on a nine-foot putt on that same 17th hole that would have put him in the lead.
Lee missed a putt for the eagle by inches on the 18th hole, but his birdie kept him on top and won the tournament.
Hideki Matsuyama (62) and Sebastian Munoz (69) followed in 3rd at -24.
The best round of the day went to Xander Schauffele, who posted a score of 61. Schauffele jumped 25 places in the standings and finished in 5th place at -23, tied with Ryan Palmer and Justin Thomas.
Canadians Adam Svensson and Michael Gligic finished 69th and 73rd respectively.
