The Rimouski Shaker, of the Puribec Senior Baseball League, will begin its season on Saturday, May 21 by visiting Témiscouata. It will be the 44e for the oldest senior baseball circuit in Quebec and the capital of Bas-Saint-Laurent has been part of it since its beginnings in 1978.
The Rimouski team will play its first ten games on the road due to major work underway on the baseball fields at the Complexe sportif Guillaume LeBlanc. You will have to wait until 1is July for the first home game, the first of ten in July to close the schedule. In the meantime, the training camp is taking place on the grounds of the Sainte-Blandine district.
The team’s baseball department has undergone major changes in recent months: Michel Francoeur has taken on the position of general manager while Louis-David Goulet, who wore the team’s colors from 2014 to 2017, becomes the new field manager. He will be assisted by Jérôme Leclerc. Goulet is a recreation technician at Le Mistral school in Mont-Joli, sports manager and coach in the football concentration.
“My passion for coaching and my passion for baseball prompted me to say yes to the organization. There is a great challenge ahead of us. In addition, I know the team’s core of veterans well, having played with them a few years ago,” explains the new manager.
On the field, seven veterans are back. In addition, Martin Bossé, the team’s first choice in the draft of La Pocatière players who took a sabbatical season, Félix Chaloux and Benjamin Roy, back with the team after a season spent with the elite junior in Saguenay.
On the mound, Mathieu Gobeil will undertake a 20e season in the circuit. With Martin Bossé, Benjamin Roy and out-of-territory player Philippe Seyer-Lamontagne, who will be back for a third season, the Shaker can count on a quality pitching staff.
The Rimouski formation, which is supervised by an eight-person board of directors, can count on the support of long-standing partners and sponsors who ensure the viability of the team. A few promotions will mark the next season at the stadium, notably Minor Baseball Day, Saturday, July 9 during the visit to Edmundston.
Season passes at a cost of $30 for 10 games are on sale from players.
