NBA Draft Lottery 2022 Preview
In recent years, the NBA Draft Lottery hasn’t had as many relevant moments as this year. The possibility of picking Duke’s Paulo Banchero or Auburn’s Jabari Smith or Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren could depend on how the ping-pong balls bounce.
The team with the best chance of taking first place would be the Houston Rockets. They need to be very focused on that first round because they will have two picks in the first round. The second is courtesy of James Harden trading the nets.
Their second rebuild season could see them with big chances getting Banchero, Smith, Holmgren could see them looking in a different direction as their needs require them probably to look for someone who can be a building block in the development of Jalen Green could be.
They are in a good position to add talent and, unlike last year, they are not in danger of sending their first-rounder elsewhere. In terms of high stakes, there isn’t that much for them not to be quite as high this year as they know the worst they could do is Houston can fall the farthest is fifth (a 47 chance, 9%), which would be less than ideal, but it wouldn’t mean their vision would take a big hit in the process.
While some understood where they would be this season, there are others who found it a very bitter pill to swallow. The case that would have to be front and center there is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The team was young and challenged a lot all year but felt the second half let them down as they eventually missed the playoffs.
With their chances of getting the top pick all but tiny, Cleveland will look for ways to get the best possible picks while also positioning himself so he can bolster a team that’s still going strong .
With players like Evan Mobley, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen still on an upward trend, the goal would be to find a player who can make them an even more solid team for the next campaign.
