Chelsey Heijnen failed to qualify for the final at the World Boxing Championships in Istanbul. She lost 5-0 to Algerian Imane Khelif in the semifinals of the up to 63 kilograms class.
This concludes the strong World Cup performance of the debutante with a bronze medal, which both losers of the semi-finals can receive.
Match on TV
Despite her bronze medal, there was still no smile on Heijnen’s face afterwards. “It sure sucks. It was a strong opponent, but I couldn’t get a grip on her and didn’t have the speed today to beat her.”
“The match was not so hard, but there was a lot more pressure. It is still on TV and there is more attention for it. For me this is my first World Cup. You grow in it, but today I suddenly realized where I was was working on it. You have to learn to deal with that.”
