Faith. Judo: Leo at the French championships

the essential
The talented Fuxéen Léo Laguerre will participate this weekend in his first French U23 championships in Ceyrat (Puy-de-Dôme).

Recently crowned champion of Occitania hopes in the category of less than 55 kg, Léo Laguerre, who has also just become a black belt, will participate next weekend in his first championships of France hopes in Ceyrat in the Puy-de-Dôme . Practicing judo since the age of seven, Léo is a serious athlete, very motivated and as his trainer René Mabit points out: “He’s a warrior, he will know how to give the best of him”. There’s no doubt about it, the Foix dojo will be well represented and remember that during the semi-finals in Toulouse, it finished first in its category.

During this competition, another licensee of the dojo will be present for the first time at this level, not as a fighter but as a referee. Indeed, Sacha Meyssan, a very good judoka, fell in love with refereeing, which he has been practicing for two years. Having won the Occitanie junior young official’s cup, he has been selected to referee at the French hopes and cadets championships next Saturday and Sunday. Good progress and above all a very good performance for this young athlete, who wishes to broaden his skills. Sacha has just successfully passed his BPJES (professional certificate for youth, popular education and sport), allowing him to teach his favorite discipline, to the delight of René Mabit.

Finally, let’s underline the very good performance of the Fuxéens during a very high quality international tournament in Andorra, which brought together our representatives, the best Spanish judokas, the Portuguese national team and some very experienced Italian competitors. Indeed, all categories combined, Fuxean judokas achieve 13 podiums, bringing back 13 medals including four gold medals. A good omen for the future!
