Sion Basket has touched the title of Swiss NLB Women champion with its fingertips. Qualified for the Final Four after dismissing Villars Basket in the quarter-finals, the Sédunoises can congratulate themselves on their weekend.
On Saturday, David Andrade’s proteges coldly picked Riva Basket in the semi-finals. Already in front at the end of the first quarter (25-17), the Valaisannes managed to stay the course – and their lead – to finally win with a score of 61-71 and secure a place in the final.
Sion Basket diminished, but catchy
The next day, at 3 p.m., Sion Basket with therefore an appointment with BC Winterthur, who defeated GC-Divac (75-46) in the other semi-final. Already deprived of Noémie Morend, the Sédunois players had to compose without their leader Kathy Constantin, injured in the 8th minute of play. A blow, since the former Hélios Basket player had scored 23 points the day before, in half -final.
Led by their American Brandy Beasley (49 points!), the Zurich women reached half-time well ahead (35-21) and managed to maintain this gap to win the title of Swiss NLB Women champion (73-53), a season after being administratively relegated to the second division. The Sédunoises, they left the floor and the 250 spectators present in the stands with the silver medal and the feeling of accomplishment.
