Hirosaki University Judo Club won the Tohoku Student Judo Championship! –Hirosaki University

On Sunday, May 22, 2022, the Tohoku Student Judo Championship was held at the Miyagi Prefectural Budokan (Sendai City), and the Hirosaki University Judo Club was held for the first time in four years by a men’s team. I won the championship for the third time. This tournament is contested in team competitions, with eight schools for boys in a sevens tournament and girls in a threes and fives league. Due to the influence of Corona, it was the first time in three years to participate in this tournament, but it was a wonderful result that the men’s team won the championship and the women’s team was runner-up with three players. Based on this result, the men’s group will participate in the All Japan Student Judo Championships to be held at Nippon Budokan (Tokyo) on June 25th (Sat) and 26th (Sun).

Shotaro Ogawa, a 4th year student in the Faculty of Education, captain of the judo club, said, “From the end of December to the end of March, there were days when we couldn’t practice due to the influence of the corona, and each of us endured a difficult period when it was unclear whether we could participate in the match. I think this is the result of the members continuing their efforts toward the one goal of “winning” even after the training was resumed. I was able to persevere and fight like Hiroshi while carrying the thoughts of my seniors. Thank you for all your support. I will continue to work as a team without being satisfied with this result. ” He talked about his enthusiasm for the future.
