Rivière-du-Loup – The Portageurs of the Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup distinguished themselves during the Provincial Individual Badminton Championship, Division 1, of the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ), held at the Cégep of Lévis-Lauzon on April 4 and 5.
In women’s doubles, Catherine Hodgson, from Saint-Arsène and student in Human Sciences, and Marilou Sinclair, from Paspébiac and student in Natural Sciences, leave with a silver medal following a victory (21- 11, 21-17) in the quarter-finals against the Cégep de Sherbrooke and a victory (21-20, 21-09) in the semi-finals against their sisters from the Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup, Laury Pelletier and Anne- Marie Robitaille.
For their part, the team of Laury and Anne-Marie, originally from Pohénégamook and Rivière-du-Loup respectively and students in Natural Sciences, subsequently won the bronze medal after a victory (22-24, 22 -20, 21-16) against Cégep de Drummondville.
In mixed doubles, Laurie Pruneau, a native of Rivière-du-Loup and a student in Natural Sciences, and Mathias Labrie, a native of Cacouna and a student at the Tremplin DEC, for their part suffered a defeat (19-21, 14-21 ) in the quarter-finals against Cégep Garneau.
Note also the Portageurs’ participation in the team component of the Provincial Championship, a first in nearly 25 years. The team was eliminated in two games at the expense of Cégep de l’Outaouais 4-3 and Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne 5-2.
