Fink and Stiglich queens of the Italian International Badminton

In a first day of the Italian International Badminton characterized by the Asian athletes who impressed, monopolizing all the qualifying draws, the qualification to the main draw of the women’s singles by the blues Katharina Fink and Gianna Stiglich stood out.

Fink, in the first two matches, got rid of two Asian defeats both in the third set: the Indian Ananya Praveen (15-21; 21-17; 22-20) and the Malaysian Siti Nurshuhaini (18-21; 21- 9; 21-19). In the final match the blue left no way out for the Polish Zuzanna Jankowska, who was beaten in two sets (21-17; 21-15).

Two victories instead catapulted Gianna Stiglich to the main draw; the blue was able to clear first the Bulgarian Gergana Pavlova (21-10; 21-13) and then win again in two heart-stopping sets (28-26; 21-18) against the Irish Rachael Darragh.

Tomorrow in the round of 32, Fink will face the Swiss Jenjira Stadelmann while Stiglich will face the Indian Rituparna Das.

Judith Mair, on the other hand, stopped in the second round in two partial battles (21-17; 21-15) by the Thai Pitchamon Opatniputh. Another Thai, Sirada Roongpiboonsopit was also fatal for Emma Piccinin, who was beaten in two sets (21-15; 21-13) always in the second qualifying round. Previously she had been blocked in the first round Anna Sofie De March overtaken in two sets (21-10; 21-6) by the English Freya Redfearn.

The three singles players Tonni Zhou, Enrico Baroni and Giovanni Toti did not go beyond the first round. In all three cases, the Asian opponent was fatal. Eliminated in the first round also the two mixed doubles formed by Gianmarco Bailetti and Anna Sofie De March (21-17; 21-12), defeated by the Slovenians Miha Ivancic and Nika Arih, and by Calle Fredhlom and the Ukrainian Amina Lysenko, defeated by the Chinese by taipei Fang-Jen Lee and Lee Chih Chen (21-14; 21-16).

Another eight matches in which the Azzurri will be engaged tomorrow, all starting from the round of 32, with the exception of the women’s doubles made up of Martina Corsini and Judith Mair which will start from the second round against the French Flavie Vallet and Emilie Varcelot.

Three other women’s doubles who will take the field with Katharina Fink and Yasmine Hamza who will challenge the Polish Paulina Hankiewicz and Magdalena Swierczynska. On the other hand, the opponents of Gianna Stiglich and the Bulgarian Kaloyana Nalbantova are Dutch, who will fight against Kirsten De Wit and Alyssa Tirtosentono. Finally German opponents for Emma Piccinin and Rebecca Tognetti who will face Annabella Jaeger and Leona MIchalski.

Two blues who will attempt the way of the second round in the singles with Fabio Caponio expected from the Asian match against the Indian Siril Verma and Yasmine Hamza opposite the top seed number three on the board the French Yaelle Hoyaux.

The last two matches will still be doubles: in the mixed with Martina Corsini who together with the French Julien Maio will face the Canadians Ty Alexander Lindeman and Josephine Wu and in the men where Giovanni Greco and David Salutt will face off against the Chinese from Taipei Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Yan Ming-Tse.
