It will not be the Emirates for the Blues

Australia dismissed the United Arab Emirates (2-1) on Tuesday evening, for the last round of the Asian play-offs for the World Cup. Thus, it is the winner of Australia – Peru who, in less than a week, will join France.

Tunisia will therefore be the only novelty of the Blues group in less than six months, in Qatar, compared to the last victorious World Cup in 2018. Indeed Australia, by dominating the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday (2-1) in the last play-off in the Asia zone, gave itself the right to challenge Peru on Monday evening in Doha, in one of the two finals which will determine the last qualifiers for the World Cup (Costa Rica – New Zealand will complete the table on Tuesday, for complete the group of Spain, Germany and Japan). Australia and Peru, the first two opponents of the French team in Russia four years ago (victories 2-1 then 1-0) before returning to Denmark, who will once again cross paths with the men of Didier Deschamps…

But this first Qatari evening was not easy for the Socceroos. If they had opened the scoring by Jackson Irvine, scorer at the start of the second period (53rd), the Emirates quickly equalized by Canedo (1-1, 57th), which rewarded their serious performance. Gradually, through experience, the Australians regained the upper hand. Craig Goodwin first hit the crossbar (63rd), then Ajdin Hrustic scored six minutes from the end the goal of this half-qualification (1-2, 84th). Which could turn into a fifth consecutive participation in the World Cup, in the event of a new victory against Peru in less than a week. Be careful, however, it should not be the same pair of sleeves as against these Emirates, who remain stuck in a single participation in the World Cup in 1990.
