Decidedly, even his elimination in the first round of the playoffs had not earned him such relentlessness. Sent on vacation several weeks ago by the Celtics, Kevin Durant remains at the heart of the news in the NBA. In his purest style, it is because of or thanks to his incendiary exits that he succeeds, they which however earn him some backfire.
Indeed, while the Nets star has mostly been attacking the media these days, it’s league personalities who are destroying him at the same time. Apart from Draymond Green, whose the last spicy sentence with regard to his former teammate has just made the buzz again, Shaquille O’Neal has also taken to attacking him recently.
Shaq guns down Kevin Durant on joining the Warriors
In a recent episode of his Big Podcast, Shaq returned to a slightly touchy issue previously raised by his friend Charles Barkley, namely the move from KD to the Warriors. The Chuckster had thus not been tender towards its target, accusing him of not having the keys to the truck in Golden State. The Diesel delivered an equally cash and scathing opinion, focusing for its part on this controversial move:
When he was at OKC, he was the bus driver, and everyone was on him defensively, and he couldn’t go all the way. Suddenly, people were very curious to know how he was going to get out of it. And then he joined the team that had just beaten him, and he didn’t understand why everyone was pissed about that. You’re supposed to have a competitive spirit. If I had known I could do this, I would have fucking joined the Bulls!
Instead of debating how important Durantula really was to the Warriors, Shaquille O’Neal therefore prefers to reproach him for his simple desire to join his executioners. A speech that was repeated constantly within the NBA community six years ago, and that the mythical pivot obviously wants to bring up to date. According to him, this initiative would go against the spirit of competition advocated in the NBA.
To illustrate the “ease” of this decision, Shaq compares it to the one he took in 1996. At the time not appreciated enough in Orlando according to him, the Diesel had chosen to join the Lakers, who had just been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, rather than the Bulls, untouchable leaders of the league. KD has meanwhile opted for a less risky alternative, but which still earns him big reprimands. The proof !
Attacked on all fronts these days, Kevin Durant has not escaped the harsh criticism of Shaquille O’Neal, who still does not understand his signing to the Warriors. A move that will definitely haunt him all his life!
