PSSI reveal the figure off the field who had a hand in the victory of the Indonesian national team over Kuwait. None other than Mochamad Iriawan alias Iwan Bule, the general chairman.
The Indonesian national team won 2-1 over Kuwait at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification. This victory is a history of breaking the 42-year record that Indonesia has never won over Kuwait.
Previously, the Indonesian and Kuwaiti national teams had only met six times. Of the six meetings, the Indonesian national team has only won once, 2-1, which took place at the Merdeka Tournament on October 19, 1980.
PSSI in his review which was published on their official website, stated that the victory was contributed by Iriawan as the General Chair of PSSI. The victory did not just happen, but because of the strategic policies taken by Iriawan as PSSI Chairman.
“Who is the main character behind Indonesia’s great victory (2-1) over Kuwait? The answer is clear: Iwan Bule! The 42 Years’ Record Breaks on the official website.
“In his two years and seven months of leadership, Indonesia has twice reached the highest level finals in Southeast Asia, namely the 2019 SEA-Games final and the 2021 AFF Cup final. Then the 2022 SEA-Games semifinals,” continued the article.
It also discussed how important breakthroughs were made by PSSI in the Iriawan era. Namely anticipating the problem of bribery, match fixing and other crimes in football by cooperating with the National Police Headquarters.
In addition, the PSSI of the Iriawan era is also said to have solved the problem of the Training Center which had been an obstacle. All of this was done for the betterment of Indonesian football.
“To anticipate cliché issues: the training center, training field, training camp, etc., related to the interests of the national team, on 18 August 2021 Iwan Bule made an MoU with 7 universities in Indonesia,” wrote PSSI.
“Because we are talking about national football, it means we are talking about the pulse of the Indonesian people. And Iwan Bule understands that very well,” wrote the last sentence in the PSSI review.
