CULIACÁN, Sin., June 9, 2022.- For the first time in history, Morelos won the gold medal in 3×3 basketball within the Conade National Games (National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports), the team did it women’s category 2006/07 by consecrating themselves as monarchs of Mexico, defeating the Aguascalientes team in the final 17-16, the above in the facilities of the María del Rosario Espinoza High Performance Center, in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
This was reported by the general director of the Institute of Sport and Physical Culture of the State of Morelos (Indem), Germán Villa Castañeda, specifying that the players who recorded their name in gold letters in the entity’s sports book are Alexa Mabel Robalo Maceda and Valeria Alexandra Mundo Rodríguez from Cuautla, Adriana Velázquez Flores from Xochitepec and Akemi Aixa Quiroz Ramírez from Jiutepec.
To reach the final duel, in the group stage, the team began by beating Sonora 15-5, later fell 11-9 to Puebla and recovered with 21-7 defeating Guanajuato, passing as one of the second best places in each group. .
In the direct elimination phase, they beat Mexico City 11-10 in the quarterfinals and consecutively led the scoreboard with 14-2 over Michoacán in the semifinals.
Germán Villa, referred that “the final was cardiac, since the Aguascalientes team led the scoreboard in much of the game, however, our representative never lowered his arms and shortened the score on constant occasions, until, with less than 15 remaining seconds, a two-point basket was made outside the boundaries of the area to finish the duel 17-16 in favor of the Morelos team”.
Likewise, the head of Indem recognized the work of coach Jorge Alberto Miranda Cuevas, who was a fundamental factor for Morelos to achieve this achievement, because in the history of the Conade, just before known as the National Olympiad, since no medal had ever been obtained in basketball in the modalities 5×5 or 3×3.
Finally, Villa Castañeda pointed out that by direct instructions from Governor Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo, the burst sport specialists who won the victory will be publicly recognized when the competitions end, adding that they will have an economic bonus for their effort on the court.
