The “Provincial Sports Scholarship Program 2022”, aimed at athletes over 12 years of age who are active and who meet various requirements, is already underway; Since last April, the best athletes in Tierra del Fuego already enjoy the benefit that the Secretary of Sports and Youth provided for them.
BIG RIVER.- These scholarships are closely supported by the Banco de Tierra del Fuego which, together with funds from the Secretariat itself, can help athletes develop in the best possible way, aiming at their excellence, and which is destined not only to athletes who are in the province, but also for those people from Fuegian who are outside of it and who today are real ambassadors of the province.
“The scholarship law is a satisfaction”
The radical legislator Federico Sciurano was very satisfied with the news of the granting by the Provincial Executive of 64 sports scholarships that benefit young people from the province with scholarships of 100 thousand pesos. “When we from the radical bloc made the bill, we were in the middle of the pandemic and the practice of sports was very impacted, like everything else. That is why we thought of a tool that, when the situation returned to normal, would provide tools to improve something as important as sports”, said the legislator.
Sciurano also said that “supporting sports through a law is fundamental because sometimes living in a province that is far from the main cities makes it difficult to access training and limits the possibility of accessing participation in competitions, contests and national instances. That is why this program, which has a total amount of 6,400,000 pesos and through which each athlete will receive a scholarship of 100,000 pesos, adds up”.
“The objective that we work together with the provincial government proposes that athletes and coaches from the province receive a monetary scholarship, according to the level of specialization, competition and achievements obtained in their career to face a series of expenses generated by training, travel, inscriptions in tournaments, training, training courses”.
In this sense, Sciurano explained that “the scholarship law that we proposed and the Legislature sanctioned found a wide echo in the scholarship program that the government and the Sports Secretariat wanted to implement. Points of agreement were found for the law to establish a State policy framework regarding sport”.
In the same way, the legislator recalled that in his two periods as mayor of Ushuaia “the management of sports was essential and the municipal scholarships were a great tool that we made so that it could last over time, through Municipal Ordinance No. 2981 , for the granting of cultural and sports scholarships corresponding to the Support and Improvement Program for Athletes and Artists”.
For this reason, “we see training and financing as paramount so that local athletes have adequate training, monitoring and support. Therefore, we see fit to provide a new mechanism to the provincial government to continue this aspect”.
