The 62nd Kanto University Basketball Rookie Final
June 12 @ Yoyogi National Gymnasium No. 2 Gymnasium (Tokyo)
Nippon Sport Science University 77-71 Nihon University
Nippon Sport Science University wins 9th time in 21 years
Nippon Sport Science University won the 9th victory in the Kanto University Rookie’s Tournament for the first time in 21 years, and Hidema Nishibe (Nippon Sport Science University 1st year, Higashiyama) became the new king. Still, the person in question has a face that does not float a little. “I’m really happy, but it’s complicated.”
Both the champion and the rookie king are “taken by the whole team”
Takudai Tsuchiya (Taku, 2nd year, Hokuriku), who was appointed captain of Nippon Sport Science University, was injured just before the tournament and could not participate. Due to this relationship, the team formation has changed, and of the five starting members, only Mutombo Jean-Pierre (2nd grade, Higashiyama) is the second grader, and from the first grade to the western part, Hayada Meteor (Fukuoka Daiichi), Tsukioka Makoto (Hikaru, Shohei). , Kyotaro Ishikawa (Kobayashi) were selected. Nishibe said, “I thought I was the one who could lead the team because I had the most experience among the four,” he said, and he was conscious of calling out to him first.
In the second match against Chuo University for Nippon Sport Science University, it was a development that allowed a large number of leads, but it was reversed in the second quarter (Q). “I think the reason why the team was united was that we were able to fight with everyone in the team and survived here,” recalls Nishibe. In the semi-final against Tsukuba University, he aggressively shot 3 points and contributed to the victory with 33 points in Game High. However, in the final with Nihon University, he received a thorough mark, and although the team’s highest number of 3-point shots was 12, the number of successful shots was only two.
“Yesterday (semi-final), the shot touch was good and I got a good score, so I decided to aim for today (final) as well … I was conscious of not bothering the team. However, it didn’t work because I caused a lot of trouble in the first half. Today, it didn’t work at all and caused trouble to the team, so I’m glad that I could get a rookie king. I’m thinking, but since it was taken by the whole team, I want to give it to the whole team. “
The regrets left in the final and the power of the team that I felt again. Such thoughts were put into the word “complex”.
Semi-finals and finals that had a special meaning to the West
Nishibu won the second place in the Winter Cup when he was in the second year of Higashiyama High School (Kyoto), and was aiming to win the final Winter Cup, but lost to Maebashi Ikuei High School (Gunma) 94-97 in the second round. With the idea that “university is the best in Japan”, I went to Nippon Sport Science University. Nippon Sport Science University has the same aggressive basketball style as Higashiyama, and I felt that it suits me in the West. Director Masahiro Fujita said, “I want you to make the most of your strengths,” and decided to hone your strengths of three points and stick to running basketball.
I was also looking forward to fighting Higashiyama’s senior Reine Yonesu (2nd year of Nihon Univ.) In the final. Yonesu suffered an injury to her right shoulder dislocation on January 30, and was diagnosed as having an undecided cure at that time. About four months later, this tournament was her return. She wasn’t in perfect condition yet, and she was on the bench in the semi-finals with Daito Bunka University. But in the final she played halfway through the second quarter and she was the driving force behind finishing the first half with a 10-point lead. Nippon Sport Science University won the game at the end of the extra time, but Nishibe said, “I enjoyed playing with Mr. Yonesu for the first time in a long time, and I’m still good. I want to absorb that and do my best.” did.
There was another senior who was looking forward to the match. Atsuya Ogawa (2nd year, University of Tsukuba) from Rakunan High School, who has a strong rivalry in Kyoto Prefecture. “I’ve been longing for it since I was in Rakunan, and I’m really envious of being able to play at that height, and as a goal, I’ve been watching videos properly and imitating it. I was very happy inside, so I think the match against Tsukuba was the most enthusiastic match. ” That spirit probably led to the result of 33 points.
Nishibe himself did not think that Nippon Sport Science University could win the championship before the start of this tournament. However, as the games were repeated, the teams became more and more engaged, and I thought, “I think I can do it at all,” and changed my mind to “I will definitely win if I get here.”
What the West gained through the tournament is “mental strength.” He pulled the team, continued to shoot without shrinking at the top, and even if he was not in good shape, he fought with the support of the team without feeling tired. Expectations are only rising for what kind of growth curve will be drawn in the last four years of university.
