Catching a foul ball in the stands is a dream come true for many baseball fans. However, things got interesting after one such ball unexpectedly landed in a spectator’s beer mug and the crowd cheered him on to chug the rest of the alcohol to keep up tradition. Now a video of the moment has gone viral online.
A Cincinnati Reds fan tried to catch a foul ball during the team’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Although the Reds lost the game, the incident became the highlight of the day.
The moment captured on camera shows the man getting up excitedly from his seat after scoring the foul ball. Spectators around him urge him to drink the leftover beer in his mug without taking out the ball. As he acknowledges the cheering, he is seen chugging his drink while the ball is still in the cup.

MLB’s official website states, “When you’re buying a beer at a baseball game, there’s one unwritten rule that must always be followed: if a ball lands in your cup, you must drink the rest before removing it. “
“Oh the treat, that’s wild beer,” one commenter was heard saying, reacting to the moment. “A little rosin, a little dirt,” chimed in another commenter. “Thank god they banned spitball,” he quipped as others could be heard giggling over the mic.
The Reds also tweeted the video joking about the unwritten rule. “If a bullet lands in your beer, you have to swallow it.”
The beer mug moment comes less than a month after another Reds fan caught a foul ball in the stands while being spotted feeding a baby with a bottle in his other hand.
