GAZİANTEP (AA) – TEGV Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Education Park Basketball Court was opened with a ceremony.
A ceremony was held for the opening of the renovated facility in the Atakent District of the central Şehitkamil district, in cooperation with the Support and Education Foundation for Basketball (BİDEV) and the Education Volunteers Foundation of Turkey (TEGV).
TEGV General Manager Sait Tosyalı stated that the education park has been in operation since 2003 and said, “Since then, 80 thousand children have received educational support at TEGV thanks to our volunteers. There are 8 of this park model throughout Turkey. Apart from that, mobile learning, which we call ‘Fireflies’. Our units go to schools and campuses in disadvantaged areas in far away areas in Turkey. We have been operating for 27 years as the point where 2-3 thousand small-scale children pass in the remaining 30 education units. We have a protocol with the Ministry of National Education. Locally, our friends are national “Our park aims to reach more than 3,000 children this year,” he said.
Basketball player Sinan Güler, on the other hand, stated that he was looking forward to hearing and watching the stories to be experienced in this field built as part of the basketball volunteers project, and said, “As BIDEV, we, as the Turkish basketball family, do our best to instill basketball in you young people and to spread basketball in a much more popular way, basically. We will continue to do our best. As an individual who was born on the field and has drawn these four lines for himself as a professional life, I am very excited by the stories that sports fans and athletes will create here.” he said.
Gaziantep Youth and Sports Provincial Director Muhittin Özbay stated that sports are very important in raising young people and thanked those who contributed to the facility.
Members of TEGV and BIDEV board of trustees, Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Berk, Gaziantep Basketball General Manager Boray Dai, education volunteers and students participated in the program.
