Sonoran basketball, like in the rest of the country, is experiencing a constant reactivation after two years of pandemic, where our State continues to host important tournaments.
“It has been a great year for Sonora in basketball, taking into account that we have been able to reactivate 100% of all the categories that we promote, we needed to activate mini-basketball, which is children from 5 to 12 years old, we just held a state festival in Nogales, which was a success, more than 700 boys and girls practicing minibasket”.
“We also reactivate maxibasketball, they are categories for adults, but also for older adults, up to 74 and over,” said Cristóbal Vargas, director of Ademeba Sonora, for The Sun of Hermosillo.

For the director of the highest basketball organization in Sonora, the work is being carried out at a steady pace, which is reflected in the large number of competitions and national events that the State has received, as well as those that are at the door.
“We have had state events, from U15 to U21, which, fortunately, have been good events. We have had a presence in practically all sectors of the State, from Nogales, Agua Prieta, Cananea, Puerto Peñasco, Hermosillo or Navojoa, the truth is, the development of basketball in Sonora continues to bear fruit”, he assured.
What basketball events will there be in Hermosillo?
Sonora began this 2022 with high-caliber events, such as the U15 Men’s National Championship, where they won the two-time championship, a team from which players were called for selection.
“We have just participated in the National Championship with our national teams and we are champions, we are two-time national champions of the men’s U15”.
“Some players go to the international event in Puerto Rico in June, three coaches from Sonora are also part of the U15 coaching staff,” he clarified.
Similarly, our State left good feelings in the U15 women’s and U16 men’s nationals, which took place in Nayarit. In addition, Nogales participated in the men’s U18 and Caborca in the women’s U16.
“All year we have a lot of events, the First Force State Championship is coming up in Cananea in July, there is a lot of activity.”
“There is definitely a lot of basketball in our state, there is a lot of talent, young people who are going far representing Sonora with dignity, with national and international results, so I think they deserve the support of the authorities as well as those interested,” he said.
Sonora, a power in basketball
The work has not only been reflected in minor category competitions, since the tricolor team usually has names from Sonora on a constant basis, with four players being in the current preselection.
“We are very happy to remain the number one state in the contribution of talent to the national teams, it is not easy at all and we are very happy”.
“Sonora is the number one power in the country, we are going to continue working to make it so, it is not easy, staying in the first three is fabulous, staying number one is excellence, but we are fighting to be the best in the country and thanks to God, the results are happening”, said Vargas.
Similarly, Cristóbal also expressed that nothing is easy, especially in the matter of obtaining the necessary support.
“That is definitely very complicated, it suffers a lot, from taking out a municipal process, a state one, what to say about a national championship.”
“Also, taking our teams to national competitions is not easy, there, thank God, we have the support of the parents, but there it is only our organization and theirs for our Sonoran talent, somehow, with management, we are moving forward.”
It should be noted that, in Sonora, there are 14 municipal leagues, which have their own leagues the local competitions, of different ages in both branches, being those fourteen the ones that operate through Ademeba.
Given this, the director stated that those interested in approaching a basketball competition can do so through the official Facebook pages, “either Ademeba Sonora and each municipality has its own networks.”
“You can contact the presidents of each league or the same directly on the Ademeba Sonora page and we can guide you anywhere in our state,” he mentioned.
Finally, it also opened the doors to coaches, who want to get certified and continue preparing.
“Ademeba has certifications, where they train you to be in charge of boys and girls, there are different levels, but we have a commission of coaches that is chaired by Felipe Márquez and through him, they have to go through an evaluation and training to have the certification”, he concluded.
