Jessica Schilder sets national records in shot put. The Volendamse won the national title in Apeldoorn on Sunday with a distance of 19.68 meters. That is 22 centimeters further than her old record of June 16 in Oslo.

It is the fourth time this month that Schilder has broken the national record.

Again Dutch record shot putter Schilder: ‘It’s just going well’

Schilder already made an impression last year with her distances and is also making great strides in her discipline this year. In March, the 23-year-old athlete surprised with bronze at the World Indoor Championships. At the FBK Games on June 6, she put the bullet in the open air for the first time over the nineteen meter limit: 19.17.

Then it went via 19.19 and 19.46 to 19.68 meters on Sunday in Apeldoorn. For the FBK Games, the Dutch record was still in her name with 18.89 meters.

With her new record, Schilder occupies fourth place in the world ranking this season. It makes her a medal contender in three weeks at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. She had already qualified for that.

Clover again under World Cup limit

The Dutch championships were the last qualifying opportunity for the World Cup, which start on July 15 in Eugene, USA. In Apeldoorn, no one except Lieke Klaver managed to break a limit.

Klaver did that on Saturday with 22.71 seconds in the 200 meters and repeated that on Sunday in the final of that distance with 22.74. It earned her signed gold.

Behind Klaver, Femke Bol, in the World Championship medal candidate in the 400 meters hurdles, ran to second place in the 200 meters. The two shot the 400 meters in Apeldoorn.

Bonevacia wins 400 meters in top field

Liemarvin Bonevacia conquered the title in the 400 meters, the distance on which the Dutch men have performed very strongly in recent years, especially in relay. In the final the entire Dutch top was at the start.

Bonevacia, the team’s leader, withstood attacks by Isayah Boers (second in 46.02) and Ramsey Angela (third in 46.44) on Sunday. Also in the final Tony van Diepen (running the 800 meters at the World Championships), Terrence Agard and Jochem Dobber; all boys who contributed to Orange medals in the 4×400 meters in recent years.

NK title Bonevacia at 400 meters: ‘Was just as focused as in the Olympic final’

Bonevacia scored 45.34 as the winner. That’s his season best, but not enough to meet the 44.90 World Cup limit. However, the Dutch champion is high enough in the world ranking that he can still compete individually at the World Cup. This requires a place in the best 32.

Waiting room

Due to the ranking system, the final Dutch World Cup team will only be announced later. There are still a number of athletes in the waiting room.

Of the athletes who met the limits, Nadine Visser impressed in the 100 meters hurdles in Apeldoorn. Visser, who suffered a nasty hamstring injury during the indoor season but is fully fit again, captured the title in a time of 12.77. In the series, the number five of the Olympic Games had already signed for 12.84.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect yet”, she looked satisfied on her two races on Sunday. “I still have three weeks. Last year I only had one game before the Games. There is still room for improvement on the last part. The last hurdles are already easier. This gives confidence.”

Maureen Koster, certain of participating in the World Cup in the 5,000 meters, won the title in the 1,500 meters by force majeure.

Taymir Burnet was surprised in the 200 meters. The sprinter was the favorite for gold, but 23-year-old Mustafa Hassan Mahamuud passed him on the last straight. Mahamuud won in 20.90 seconds. The 29-year-old Burnet had to be satisfied with silver in 21.03. Koen Smet was unable to fulfill his favorite role in the 110 meter hurdles. The young Timme Koster (19) turned out to be the fastest in 13.80 seconds. Smet had to settle for bronze (13.92).
