LANGUAGE With the opening of the first net sports field in Ede at Sportpark Peppelensteeg, the Gelderland subsidy scheme that has been made available in the context of the Volleyball World Cup is being used. The alderman for Sport of the municipality of Ede, Peter de Pater, opened the field on Monday 27 June.
The field is located behind the De Peppel swimming pool, where a PlayceX multifunctional sports field, Athletic Nature Track and a beach volleyball court have already been realized. Employees of Sportservice De Vallei received students from primary school De Groene Vallei in Ede, who were allowed to try out the net sports field. Various sports can be played on the net sports field, such as badminton, tennis and volleyball.
SUBSIDY In the run-up to the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup, the province of Gelderland launched a subsidy scheme for net sports fields earlier this year. Volleyball clubs in Gelderland could apply for a subsidy for a net sports field in collaboration with another party in the neighbourhood, such as a school. Sportservice De Vallei has submitted the subsidy application for the municipality of Ede. In the coming period, more than thirty fields will be placed in Gelderland, five of which will be in the municipality of Ede.
VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS In 2022, the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup will take place in the Netherlands for the first time in history. The four-yearly World Cup lasts more than three weeks and 24 countries from five different continents take part in the event. In total, more than a hundred matches will be played from September 23 to October 15, 2022. Most of the event takes place in the province of Gelderland, with Arnhem and Apeldoorn as playing locations. Ede is the host city for the national volleyball team from China. The team will train in the Van Der Knaap Top Sports Hall on Zandlaan in Ede.
