Bryan Linssen is leaving Feyenoord, the Rotterdam club reported on Monday. The 31-year-old attacker has signed a contract with Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds until the end of 2024.
Linssen’s contract in Rotterdam ran until mid-2023. Neither Feyenoord nor Urawa Red Diamonds report anything about the amount of the transfer fee.
Linssen’s departure does not come as a surprise. Rumors of an upcoming transfer to Japan had been rumored for weeks and it was known that the player was open to an adventure abroad. In addition, Feyenoord is close to attracting a new attacker. Reportedly, the fifteen-time national champion is personally around with four-time Italian international Wilfried Gnonto of FC Zurich, after striker Danilo was taken over from Ajax last month.
Linssen played two seasons for Feyenoord, which took him over from Vitesse on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. Previously he was active for FC Groningen, Heracles Almelo and VVV-Venlo, MVV Maastricht and Fortuna Sittard. De Limburger looks back on two great years, in which he regularly had a base place and scored 21 times in the Eredivisie.
“Playing for Feyenoord I have realized one of my most beautiful dreams,” said Linssen when announcing his transfer to Japan on the Feyenoord website. “The time has flown by. Not only do I look back with pride on our achievements on the field, but I will also always remember the people with whom I have worked so well. And of course the supporters and a full Kuip: that’s going to happen. I miss tremendously.”
‘We say goodbye in a beautiful way’
With Urawa Red Diamonds, Linssen has opted for the current number ten in the J-League from the metropolis of Saitama. Technical director Frank Arnesen of Feyenoord calls a foreign adventure a “long cherished wish” of Linssen. “Now that this opportunity arises, we say goodbye to each other in a beautiful way.”
The Dane emphasizes that Linssen can look back on two good years in De Kuip. “Bryan has always carefully built his career and has shown time and again that he can also take the level a step higher. We have also succeeded in that. With his efficiency and energy he has not only been of added value in the field.”
Linssen is the third attacker of the selection who made it to the Conference League final, leaving De Kuip. Earlier it became clear that mercenaries Cyriel Dessers and Reiss Nelson will not play for Feyenoord next season.
The clubs have agreed that Bryan Linssen, 31, will join the Dutch Eredivisie (Netherlands 1st Division) Feyenoord with a full transfer. After a medical check in Japan, a formal contract will be signed. β Details β https://t.co/axAmNamw6W #Urawa Reds #Bryan Linssen
