Lecco, 3 July 2022 – It is time to lay the foundations for the new 2022/2023 season for Lecco Basket Women who, after losing Federica Greppi, retired from the activity after 23 years, hired 29 year old play / guard Debora Plebani who returns to tread the parquet after a few years off.
Plebani, as he tells us, started playing basketball late: “On the advice of my gym teacher I started at 11 years old. Before, I always played football in my oratory’s team, then when I reached middle school, as the team no longer existed, I had to give up. My teacher recommended athletics, but it’s too individual a sport for my character. Better a team so I launched (again on the advice of the teacher who was a Serie A player) in this world and I finally met basketball. The first team I started playing with was Ardor Busto Arsizio, my big family and thanks to them I became passionate about this sport. I played for several years in the youth teams and in Serie C, then the team broke up and I moved to Cerro Maggiore again in Serie C. I was there for a year and then with my work commitments I had to give up. A year of pause and then the resumption in the Real Busto in the Promotion championship. The move to Lecco for work reasons prevented me from continuing my competitive activity and now after 5 years I am ready for a new adventure “.
What kind of player is Debora Plebani: “I’ve always played as a guard and play. I like both roles and have always made myself available to the team’s needs. Where they put me I played. I am a player who always tries to give my best even if she doesn’t have any more and never give up. I am aggressive and I like to charge the team. I love the dressing room moment because that’s where the group and the team are created. I like to win but I always try to take the positive also from defeats because I think there is always something to learn ”. How did you get to Lecco Basket Women: “I was interested two years ago because I was tempted to start playing again but then Covid blocked everything. Later I met Claudia Oddo in the school where she works and she asked me several times to try to recover but I never found the courage to the end. At the end of the season she contacted me coach Valentina Canali and managed to convince me. Now it’s time to try again ”. After a few training sessions, what impressions did you have from the group and what goals you set: “Definitely positive. Already at the first training session I seemed to have known them for some time, I immediately found myself at ease. It is a young group with a great desire to do and have fun. They reminded me a bit of my first team where I started. I hope I can bring all my energy and determination both on and off the pitch. But starting from the locker room where the group is created. If we are united and compact then in the field we can do anything. We must aim for the top and always give our best “.
