The French Basketball Federation announces the creation of the very first French professional 3×3 team: 3×3 Paris. The team will consist of 6 players: Alexandre Aygalenq, Paul Djoko, Vincent Fauche, Jules Rambaut (wounded and temporarily replaced by Sylvain Sautier), Franck Seguela et Alex Vialaret. The last two have just won the bronze medal at the World Cup a week ago. They will be coached by Yann Julien et Karim Souchu.
The 6 players will have a fixed salary and will be able to increase their income with the prize money distributed during the various tournaments. The FFBB announces “the dual objective of initiating a movement to professionalize the discipline by inspiring other players, and allowing France to earn more points in the world 3×3 ranking. This ranking is indeed very important since the nations are qualified for major 3×3 competitions thanks to the points accumulated by their 25 best players.
3×3 Paris will take part in the FIBA 3X3 World Tour, with the objective of playing the greatest number of “Challengers” and “Masters” to secure a place in the final tournament in Abu Dhabi in December. Finally, in 2023, the team will also participate in the professional 3×3 circuit, the details of which will be known later.
“For many years and especially since the awarding of the Paris 2024 Games, the French BasketBall Federation has continued to promote and develop basketball in all its forms,” said Jean-Pierre Siutat, president of the FFBB. “3×3 basketball, a new Olympic discipline, is one of our major areas of development. Today, the rise of 3×3 basketball worldwide, combined with the excellent performance of our national teams in this discipline, validates all the projects put in place and encourages us to go even further. Once again the FFBB is innovating and moving forward by creating this first French professional 3×3 team. This is certainly an additional step which should allow, on the one hand, to qualify our national men’s 3×3 team for the 2024 Paris Games, alongside the French women’s team, but also to make the 3× even more visible. 3 in the eyes of the general public. “.
