The countdown to a new NBA 2K game has begun as the launch of NBA 2K23 gets closer and closer. While the next NBA 2K game will almost certainly arrive before the NBA 2022-23 season begins, it would be nice to know an actual release date for the next game in the franchise. NBA 2K22 brought new innovations to The City and The Neighborhood, but what will NBA 2K23 bring? We won’t know fully until release, so let’s review what we know so far about the 2K23 release date.
What is the release date of NBA 2K23
NBA 2K23 has a release date at the time of this writing. And just like previous NBA 2K games, this year’s title will launch in September.
In May 2022, 2K announced the details of the latest installment of the NBA 2K franchise would be released during the month of July. This was stated to coincide with the release announcing that the NBA Summer League, a featured summer basketball league for rookies and promises, would be renamed and named the NBA 2K23 Summer League.
Just two days before the start of the NBA 2K23 Summer League, on July 7, the publisher and developer released the first information about the new game on July 5. 2K has confirmed that Bulls and NBA legend Michael Jordan will be on the cover of two special NBA 2K23 editions: the Michael Jordan Edition and the Champions Edition.
This first bunch of news lined up well with what 2K has done in the past. Last summer, 2K confirmed the cover athlete, who ended up being Mavericks star Luka Doncic, and 2K22’s release date in July. This timeline it lines up pretty well with past announcements, as the NBA 2K21 release date has been confirmed in July 2020.
Additionally, 2K has stated that 2K23 will be released on September 9th. This aligns quite well with the release of 2K22, which came out on September 10th.
