The side of Olympique Lyonnais has given birth to a daughter, according to a message relayed Thursday by the French Football Federation.
Once is not custom, Amel Majri is not one of the French who are preparing to play the Women’s Euro football in England. For a good reason: the Lyonnaise, 29, gave birth to a little girl. This is a first for a player of the French football team in activity. “Congratulations to new mom Amel Majri! Welcome to little Maryam»wrote the FFF on Wednesday on the Twitter account dedicated to Les Bleues, currently in England for the Euro.
“The succession is assured”
OL spilled the beans earlier by also congratulating the 29-year-old, eleven-time French champion with the Rhone club: “A new Fenotte [surnom des joueuses lyonnaises] in the family. The succession is assured.”
“It’s a very beautiful thing, we learned it yesterday [mardi] in the bus, congratulations to Amel», says attacking midfielder Clara Matéo, questioned on the subject on Wednesday during a press briefing from the Blue base camp for the Women’s Euro in England. The Paris FC player continues: “Year after year, more and more players abroad or even in France have this project, it’s a good thing.” Improving women’s rights “goes through stages” and gradually “more and more things are being done in this direction”she adds.
Part of the France team with 66 caps, Majri spent much of the season in the infirmary after suffering a ruptured ligament in his left knee in October. In May, she spoke about her postpartum sports recovery: “After childbirth, the body must be given time to rest and take care of the baby. Then there is re-athletics. Normally October, end of October back to competition.
Majri is however not the only Lyonnaise to have given birth this year. Another of her teammates at OL, Icelandic Sara Björk Gunnarsdöttir (the latter has since joined Juventus Turin in the off-season), also gave birth to a child during the season. But earlier, so that the captain of Iceland had time to pick up the pace to play the Euro with his selection in group D, along with France.
