PARAMARIBO — It’s all about developing and enjoying badminton during the course for teachers and future teachers that Jamaican trainer Richard Wong is teaching at Ring Sport Center this weekend. Classes started Friday.
The intention is to further introduce the sport of badminton through schools. “I expect enthusiastic teachers who like to follow the lessons. It is my third time here in Suriname and I am happy to share my knowledge with the Surinamese,” says Wong, who is certified by the World Badminton Federation.
The Shuttle Time Course is a badminton development program to teach teachers and future teachers basic knowledge and skills so that they can introduce their students to the sport of badminton.
The Surinamese Badminton Association (SBB) organizes the training in collaboration with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Pan-American Badminton Organization. SBB chairman Charlene Soerodimedjo is very happy that the Shuttle Time program can now be organized again, after the period of COVID-19.
“It is important for us to introduce more people to the sport. Also my thanks to Richard Wong who willing is to share his knowledge,” said Soerodimedjo.
The program will certainly help to discover young badminton talents, the chairman believes. This contributes to the development of this sport, one of the policy goals of the association. According to the chairman, it is the intention that the knowledge gained will be shared in other districts.
