A silver and a bronze medal were achieved by the Bolivarian judokas Anriquelis Barrios and Elvismar Rodríguez at the Zagreb Grand Prix in Croatia.
Barrios advanced to the final in the -63 kilos, but did not show up for the fight due to a knee injury, journalist Vanessa Fererira reported on her social networks.
This is the second medal in a row that the Guyanese has added, after recovering from an ankle injury that did not allow her to compete in the Bolivarianos de Valledupar. She started her action by beating Italy’s Nicolle Di Santo and then defeated Dominican Ariela Sanchez to win Pool A.
In the semifinals she accounted for the Spanish Cristina Cabaña Pérez and had to face the Canadian Catherine Beaucjemin-Pinard in the final.
Bronze for Elvismar
While in the -70 kilos, Elvismar Rodríguez won the bronze, defeating the Brazilian Maria Portela in the playoffs and then the Australian Aoifen Coughlan.
Before, she beat the Croatian Andela Violic and the British Katie-Jemina Yeats Brown, she lost in the Pool C final with the German Miriam Butkereit, who in the end took the silver.
