Ex-tennis star Ashleigh Barty comments on rumors about a new career in golf

The three-time Grand Slam winner explained that she tries to go to the golf course once a week when she has the time. But there is “no need or desire in me to play professional sports, particularly golf,” Barty said.

“I love going out with my friends, but yes, that’s not for me,” emphasized the Australian, adding: “You just can’t accept that I don’t want to do professional sport anymore.”

The former number one in the tennis world won this tournament two years ago. At that time, her handicap was an outstanding 3.9.

Ash Barty was also active in cricket

Most recently, Barty was also on the course at a celebrity tournament as part of the Open Championship in St. Andrews. The golf rumors therefore came as no surprise.

Barty had also tried her hand in another sport as a professional player. In Australia’s national sport of cricket, the all-round talent played a few games in the Women’s National Cricket League in 2015 before announcing her return to tennis in 2016.

But now there should be no second detour to another sport. Instead, Barty has published a number of children’s books called “Little Ash” since her career ended in the spring. The Australian recently said: “Promoting children’s education is something that is close to my heart and if I can help encourage new readers it makes me very happy.”
