The MLS and its investment in Colombian talent

Little by little the MLS has been becoming one of the most preferred destinations for Colombian players, especially for young people, who have seen in the United States a league where they can emerge and thus achieve a higher level to reach Europe.

The arrivals of Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández to the Columbus Crew for 9 million euros and from Dylan Borrero to the New England Revolution for 3.5 million, are clear examples of the important investment that the different MLS clubs have made in recent years for young players.

According to the specialized portal Transfermarkt, American league clubs have invested just over 25 million euros in Colombian soccer players under the age of 23 since 2020, a figure that highlights the importance that national players have been having in the MLS.

And it is that in these last three years, around 13 Colombian players under 23 have been transferred, adding a result of 24.7 million euros paid by the American clubs, hence the transfer of Juan Camilo Hernández from Watford in England, which became one of the most expensive in MLS history.

As well as the 23-year-old striker, the aforementioned transfer of Dylan Borrero from Brazilian football stands out, as well as Santiago Moreno, Jhon Jader Durán, Emerson Rodríguez, Déiber Caicedo, Edwin Mosquera, Andrés Reyes, among others.
