Amiab Albacete, League champion, will host the trophy together with Mideba Extremadura, League runner-up; Bidaideak Bilbao BSR, champion of the Copa del Rey; and Econy Gran Canaria, Cup finalist.

The four teams will be paired in two semifinals to be played on Saturday and the two winners will play the final on Sunday.

For the president of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), Enrique Álvarez, this tournament “means increasing the national level of wheelchair basketball, in clear progression, and offering clubs a new official tournament with the same format of basketball on foot. In addition, the fact of being televised live by Teledeporte will give the tournament a very high value”.

The mayor, Emilio Sáez, has come to underline that this is a new example of Albacete becoming a reference as a “city of sports”, by being chosen as the venue for “powerful tournaments, such as this Spanish Super Cup, in different disciplines sports”. This is the result, said the mayor, of the good work carried out by local clubs and athletes and also of the commitment made by the Albacete City Council to place competitive sport as an incentive for the local economy.

The Spanish Super Cup will be the official starting signal for the new wheelchair basketball season since the following week, on Saturday October 1, the League will begin with twelve teams in competition.
