SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Today’s Webtoon” held its press conference on July 26.
“Today’s Webtoon” is a remake Korean version of the popular 2016 Japanese series “Sleepeeer Hit!” and is set against the backdrop of South Korea’s competitive webtoon industry. Kim Sejeong will star as On Ma Eum, a former judo athlete who joins a webtoon editorial department as a new employee and struggles to mature into a true editor.
Kim Sejeong, who made her previous project “A Business Proposal” a huge success, will continue her momentum with “Today’s Webtoon.” Regarding this success, Kim Sejeong commented, “I am back with SBS. I don’t want to feel burdened by creating hit after hit, but I’ve done my best, so I hope it shows.”
He added, “It is a drama about webtoons, but it is also about someone’s dream. I feel lonely when I am alone, but if there is someone who supports me like this, I feel that I can do my best to achieve my dream. I wish this drama will give comfort to those who dream.”
Choi Daniel returns to the small screen after four years through “Today’s Webtoon”. He takes on the role of Seok Ji Hyung, the deputy director of Neon Webtoon’s editorial department. Seok Ji Hyung is a figure who loosens up the atmosphere in the editorial department by telling silly jokes or placing bets while keeping a poker face.
He commented, “I’m also a bit of a goofball, so I try to show that aspect of my character. I felt that such a character is more of a mature person. Sometimes, Seok Ji Hyung is hesitant about certain things, but that’s because he has a lot more experience. He also tried to show the imperfect side of him as he is.”
Nam Yoon Su He also has a starring role as Goo Joon Young, a new recruit in Neon Webtoon’s editorial department who is an elite employee with an IQ of 150. Goo Joon Young aspires to be the best instead of trying his best.
Nam Yoon Su made everyone laugh when he said, “I really like the words that describe my role, like ‘new recruit’ and ‘elite’.” And she added, “I had never played the role of an elite person. My character has a goofy look, and I do too, so that’s why I wanted to take on this role.”
Kim Sejeong shared, “’Today’s Webtoon’ encompasses all aspects of a dream. In many cases, the word ‘sleep’ shines when it is achieved, but I think that everything related to sleep, such as the process of dreaming, not achieving sleep, and even managing sleep, is brilliant and beautiful.
He added, “I think this drama illuminates all the directions of our dreams. There are many parts that viewers can relate to, so I hope they can see it as their own stories.”
“Today’s Webtoon” premieres on July 29 at 10 p.m. KST and will be available with English subtitles on Viki.
