US Open: Alexander Zverev’s comeback is getting closer – this is what the Olympic champion’s plan looks like

“However, it is still too early to say whether he can compete there or not,” the spokesman continued.

On June 3, Alexander Zverev unhappily twisted his ankle in the semifinals of the French Open against eventual winner Rafael Nadal, tearing three lateral ligaments in his right ankle.

Although the number two in the world has only recently stopped using crutches, this short period of time does not stop Zverev from believing in an appearance at the US Open (August 26 to September 11 live on Eurosport). Should it not work out with a comeback there, the group games at the Davis Cup (September 13th to 18th in Hamburg) would be on the program as an alternative.

“The Davis Cup in Hamburg in September seems more realistic, but we keep our fingers crossed that it will be ready sooner,” added the spokesman. “So he should be able to play a few more tournaments before Tokyo.”

Zverev on comeback: “Wants to win every tournament”

Even if an exact date is still in the stars, it can be assumed that Zverev will return with passion and bite.

In an exclusive Eurosport interview, the Olympic champion recently said: “I want to win every tournament I play. That’s why I’ll play when I feel like ‘I can win this tournament’. Whether the first tournament is a Grand Slam or not is not because of the size of the event but because of my comfort on the pitch.”
